Mary Esther is located outside the main entrance to Hurlburt Field and close to Fort Walton Beach and Navarre. The main thoroughfare is US Highway 98 which runs east and west from Panama City straight through Pensacola, and runs parallel to the Intercoastal Waterway with views of the white sand dunes and emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico along the way.
